Pink October at M Social Resort Penang: Ribbon of Hope
October turns the lobby pink at M Social Resort Penang, where the resort is marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month by inviting guests and the wider Penang community to take part. The campaign runs through the month and folds three things together: awareness, remembrance, and a way to give back without going out of your way to do it.
A ribbon the lobby builds together
At the centre of it is Ribbon of Hope, an interactive installation in the resort's main lobby. Guests are invited to add to it as a gesture of hope, remembrance, or support, and the colours carry the meaning. Pink is for those currently fighting breast cancer, green for survivors who have come through their journey, and white in memory of loved ones who have been lost. Over the month the installation fills in, which is the point: a single ribbon made from a lot of small, personal contributions.

Pink on the table
The theme carries through to what is being served. Throughout October the resort is offering the Pink Social Tea Box and the Pink Breeze Cocktail, two seasonal additions that keep the campaign going past the lobby and onto the table. They are an easy way to take part if you are stopping by for an afternoon or an evening rather than staying over.
Where a part of it goes
The giving-back part is built in. A portion of proceeds from selected Pink October offerings, the Pink Social Tea Box and Pink Breeze Cocktail among them, goes to Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital in Penang, which provides cancer care to patients and families across the state. It is a small donation folded into something you were likely to enjoy anyway, which is usually the version of giving that actually happens.
If you are in Penang this month
The campaign is open through October at the resort, so there is time to drop by the lobby, add to the ribbon, and order something pink while you are there. If you are mapping out where to eat around the island, M Social has form here: its kitchen also ran a Taste of Malaysia buffet over the Merdeka season. And if the Pink October idea appeals but you are closer to the city, Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur is running its own Pink October afternoon tea through the month.
