Brothers Darren and Jarrel have taken the leap from their corporate careers to bring Malaysians a first-of-its-kind kombucha experience at Sunway Pyramid.
Born from a journey to improve their own gut health, The Elixir is poised to become the country’s first kombucha-exclusive outlet in a major shopping mall, which just opened in December 2024.
From Corporate Life to Kombucha Crafting
The Elixir’s story is a touching one. Their journey started nearly three years ago when Darren left his corporate job to start a kombucha business, inspired by a personal quest to improve his brother’s digestive health. After experiencing frequent gut issues, Darren researched natural remedies and discovered the probiotic power of kombucha.
Darren then began experimenting with kombucha recipes and getting his younger brother Jarrel to try. After seeing the benefits firsthand, Jarrel decided to leave his own 9-to-5, joining Darren full-time to take The Elixir to new heights.
What started as a health pursuit evolved into a mission to bring this beneficial beverage to a wider audience in Malaysia.
Eight Unique Flavors Rooted in Malaysian Taste
With a goal to create kombucha that’s both healthful and refreshing, the team spent eight months testing over 80 fruit combinations. The result? A lineup of 5 signature vibrant flavors including 3 new flavours for the new store. All made with green tea for a low-caffeine, anytime drink:
- Blushing Melon (Pink Guava & Watermelon) – A medium-sour blend with a refreshing twist.
- Lychee Burst (Pomegranate & Lychee) – Lightly sweet, appealing to those with a softer palate.
- Emerald Ember (Cherry & Red Orange) – Strongly sour with a bold kick.
- Tropical Fusion (Pineapple & Peach) – A deeply fermented option with classic kombucha notes.
- Floral Twist (Roselle & Lemon) – Mild and refreshing, perfect for a light pick-me-up.
- Island Breeze (Sugarcane & Coconut) – A seasonal hit with an original, mild taste.
- Autumn Spice (Apple, Cinnamon & Tomato) – Holiday vibes in every sip.
- Mango Bliss (Mango & Blueberry) – Another crowd-pleaser on the sweeter side.
Innovative Customer Engagement and a Commitment to Sustainability
The Elixir’s roots lie in connecting with the community, from their early days of pop-up stalls in Desa Park, Lalaport, Jaya one and so, to joining major food expos including events like ArtBox 2023 in the heart of Sunway.
In addition, The Elixir is committed to sustainability, offering a recycling program where customers can return their empty bottles to earn stamps. After collecting 15 stamps, customers receive RM 15 off their next set purchase, an initiative designed to reward eco-conscious customers.
