Radisson Chateau de Bangkok Reopens in Ploenchit
Bangkok is one of the easiest short breaks from Kuala Lumpur, and most of us end up in the same busy stretches of Sukhumvit or around Siam. A reopened hotel in the Ploenchit area is pitching itself at the traveller who wants the city without the crush. Radisson Hotel Chateau de Bangkok has reopened after a full renovation and rebrand, sitting in Soi Ruamrudee, a leafy residential lane tucked behind the towers of Ploenchit and Wireless Road.

What has reopened
The 14-storey hotel first opened in 1994, and the renovation has updated it while keeping the quieter, residential feel of the building. There are 178 guestrooms and suites, finished with a Scandinavian-leaning look and what the hotel calls apartment-style conveniences in its longer-stay categories. Those rooms come with kitchenettes, espresso machines, deep-soaking bathtubs and larger living areas, backed by daily housekeeping, laundry and concierge service. For a family trip or a longer work stay, that mix of a hotel service desk with a home-style room is the main draw here.
The Ploenchit neighbourhood
The pitch is really about the location. Soi Ruamrudee sits in Bangkok's diplomatic quarter, a pocket of independent cafes and neighbourhood restaurants that most first-time visitors skip. Within walking range are contemporary shows at KICHgallery, the historic Holy Redeemer Church and the Nai Lert Park Heritage Home, a preserved early-20th-century estate. There is also the elevated Green Bridge that links Lumpini Park and Benjakitti Park, a popular route for walking, jogging and cycling above the traffic. It is a calmer side of the city for anyone who has already done the usual Bangkok rounds a few times.
Pool, dining and getting around
Back at the hotel, there is a rooftop swimming pool and bar looking over the skyline, a fitness centre and event spaces that can take gatherings of up to 250 people. The dining is set up to pull in locals as well as guests, with after-work happy hours, hand-crafted pizzas, business lunches and regular promotions. Chateau Botanique runs an extensive breakfast buffet and serves international a la carte dishes through the day, while Larder & Lounge on the ground floor is the more casual option, with specialty coffee, local dishes and an outdoor terrace.
Getting around is straightforward. The hotel is within walking distance of BTS Ploenchit station, which connects to Siam, Sukhumvit and the main commercial districts, and there is a complimentary tuk-tuk shuttle to the station. Central Embassy and its shopping, along with the DIOR Gold House, are a short walk away. Reservations are open directly through the hotel.
Worth a look on the next Bangkok trip
This fits a pattern we have been tracking in the city, where older Bangkok hotels are reopening with fuller refreshes rather than small touch-ups. It sits alongside the reworked Anantara Siam Bangkok and the rebuilt Dusit Thani Bangkok, both of which leaned into heritage and design in their makeovers. For Malaysian travellers who treat Bangkok as a regular getaway, the appeal of the Radisson Chateau de Bangkok is less about a headline attraction and more about a quieter base, close to the shopping and the BTS but a street or two removed from the noise.
