Penang Cocktail Week Returns This September With ‘Welcome Home’

-

There is a particular kind of warmth to a night out in Penang, the sort where a stranger at the next stool quickly starts to feel like an old friend. Penang Cocktail Week is building its entire fourth edition around that feeling.

The festival returns from 15 to 20 September 2026, welcoming bartenders, brands, industry folk and cocktail lovers back to the island for a week of good drinks and even better company. After three editions, this year leans into the thing that has always set it apart: Penang hospitality.

A theme called ‘Welcome Home’

This year’s guiding idea is “Welcome Home”, a heartfelt nod to everyone who has become part of the Penang cocktail community. Whether you have been there since the first pour or are visiting the island for the very first time, the invitation is the same: come as you are, and be treated like family.

Five pillars of Penang hospitality

The week’s lineup of guest shifts, events and experiences is shaped around five pillars, each named in the local tongue:

  • Kaki Lang (One of Us) celebrates the people who make the industry tick, with local and international guest shifts and returning Penang talent.
  • Makan Angin (To Explore) nudges you past the bars to discover the island’s neighbourhoods, culture and quieter corners.
  • Jiak (To Eat) leans into Penang’s legendary food, pairing cocktails with hawker collaborations and one-off dining experiences.
  • Kongsi (To Share) brings professionals and curious drinkers together over tastings, masterclasses and good conversation.
  • Lau Juak (To Celebrate) closes the week with a party at Hin Bus Depot, complete with live music, art installations and local vendors.

A global guest list

True to its community spirit, the festival will host industry friends travelling in from cities including Montreal, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei, Kaohsiung, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Singapore, Bangkok, Jakarta and Phnom Penh, among others.

What to know before you go

The full programme, including participating venues, international guests, ticketing and exclusive experiences, will be announced in the coming weeks. For now, the organisers suggest saving the dates and following @penangcocktailweek for updates.

If a mid-September trip to George Town has been on your mind, this might be the nudge you needed. Let the countdown begin.
