RIMOWA and Faber-Castell Make a 2,400 Euro Artist Case
Two German houses better known for suitcases and pencils have made something that sits between the two. RIMOWA and Faber-Castell have released the RIMOWA x Faber-Castell Artist Case, a limited-edition aluminium case built to hold a full set of drawing tools, with a recommended price of 2,400 euro (about RM11,900).
The case is made in RIMOWA's Cologne factory from the same anodised aluminium the house uses for its luggage, finished with the grooved profile and the leather handle carried over from its Classic collection. Open it and a two-level tray lifts to lay out the contents. The centrepiece is a set of 120 Faber-Castell Polychromos colour pencils, the brand's oil-based artist range, sitting alongside co-branded 2B graphite pencils grooved to echo RIMOWA's own design, plus a platinum-plated sharpener and eraser. Every instrument is made in Germany, and the set is pitched as covering the whole process from first sketch to finished colour.

It is the kind of object that says as much about the owner as about drawing. RIMOWA has spent the past few years turning its aluminium know-how to things well beyond travel, from an aluminium dartboard case to its Never Still line of leather bags, each one a way of putting the factory's work in front of a design-minded audience. Faber-Castell supplies the other half of the story: founded in 1761 and marking its 265th anniversary this year, it is a ninth-generation family business and one of the oldest industrial companies still running.
RIMOWA points to the aluminium's habit of taking on a patina over time, which is its way of saying the case is meant to be carried and used rather than kept in a box. Whether many artists would take a 2,400 euro case out to sketch is another matter. The pitch is clearly aimed at collectors and enthusiasts as much as at working illustrators, and it lands in the same limited-edition, high-price territory as the brand's other recent collaborations.
The RIMOWA x Faber-Castell Artist Case in Silver goes on sale on 17 September 2026 in RIMOWA stores worldwide and online at RIMOWA.com, which is the route open to Malaysian buyers. Faber-Castell will also stock it in its German retail stores and through its online stores in Austria, France, Germany and Italy. It comes with a two-year guarantee.
For anyone who has ever admired a RIMOWA case and a box of Polychromos and wanted both in one object, this is that object, priced to match.
