Village Grocer Opens at 118 Mall Beneath Merdeka 118

If you work in the Merdeka 118 precinct, are staying at one of the hotels nearby, or are simply curious about what sits at the bottom of the world's second-tallest building, there is now a full supermarket down there. Village Grocer opens its doors today, 2 November 2026, at 118 Mall, a short walk from Stadium Merdeka and Stadium Negara.

It is the chain's 10th new store this year, and it has been planned for two quite different kinds of shopper: office workers and residents who need their daily groceries, and tourists who want to take a taste of Malaysia home with them.

What you will find inside Village Grocer 118 Mall

A Malaysian showcase: a dedicated section of local produce, snacks and pantry staples, aimed at visitors trying local flavours for the first time.
Imported and local fresh produce: fruit and vegetables flown in daily from Australia, the US, Japan, Korea and New Zealand, next to produce from Cameron Highlands.
Butchery and seafood: meat cuts plus a "catch of the day" seafood counter.
Woolworths house brands: exclusive Australian products from Woolworths, alongside an organic and health-food range covering vegan, keto and gluten-free diets.
Deli and grab-and-go: ready meals for anyone eating on the move.

One thing to remember before you go: the outlet is plastic-free at checkout, so bring your own bag.

Ivan Tan, Group Executive Director of The Food Purveyor, the group behind Village Grocer, described it as "a store built for a landmark", meant to represent Malaysia to visitors while staying a supermarket local shoppers can call their own. The same group opened its Food Merchant store at Solaris Mont Kiara earlier this year.

Opening rewards at 118 Mall

The launch offers run from 1 November to 6 December 2026, and some are already over: the one-day Bumper Bonanza deals and the first shopping-bag giveaway were for 1 November only. What is still on:

RM60 in vouchers: spend RM100 or more in a single receipt and get a set of four cash vouchers worth RM60 in total, usable only at Village Grocer 118 Mall.
A free foldable shopping bag (BITES members): spend RM180 or more in a single receipt to get a Village Grocer 118 exclusive foldable bag with a Malaysian food pouch. This runs from 2 November to 31 December 2026, limited to the first 5,000 bags, while stocks last.

BITES, the chain's loyalty programme, is free to join. Members earn one point for every RM2 spent and get members-only prices.

Why this one is worth a detour

Most new supermarkets serve the neighbourhood around them. This one also has to work as a shop window for Malaysian food, in a precinct that draws tourists, hotel guests and the city's office crowd, so the local showcase is the part we would head to first. It joins a run of new retail at KL landmarks, including Coway's BEREX concept store at Ombak KLCC Mall.
