InterContinental Chiang Mai Adds 49 Pool-Access Rooms

2026-09-09

Chiang Mai's InterContinental The Mae Ping is about to get bigger, and the new wing is built around water. Late in 2026 the hotel will open Khlong Mae Kha Village, a second phase of 49 guestrooms named after the historic Mae Kha Canal, and it turns a much-loved city landmark into something closer to a resort in the heart of the Old Town.

Rooms that open onto the pool

The new accommodation comes in three types: Pool Access Rooms, Club Rooms and Suites, all with private balconies. Stay on the ground floor and you step straight from your room to the pool. Book one of the upper-level residences instead and you get a private outdoor hot tub and a generous deck, the kind of space that makes an evening in feel like the reason you came.

Lanna craft, canal inspiration

Designed by Architects 49, the village is a cluster of three-storey houses that borrow from traditional Lanna wooden homes, then pair that character with clean contemporary lines and floor-to-ceiling views. The Mae Kha Canal is the thread running through it, with reflections of water and sky turning the facade into a shimmering ribbon. Inside, the craft is local: hand-worked detailing and Thailand's signature Golden Chomphunut accents give the rooms a warm, luminous glow.

Full Club InterContinental treatment

Everyone in the new wing gets the full Club InterContinental experience, which means deluxe breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails come with the stay rather than as an add-on. For anyone planning a Chiang Mai trip in 2026, it is worth watching: a pool-access room in the Old Town, with hot tubs, heritage design and club privileges, is a strong reason to book direct through the hotel once the rooms go on sale.
