Pickleball’s growing Malaysian following has its next big date, and it is in Penang. The Leapmotor APP Penang Open 2026 runs from 22 to 26 July at Pickle By The Sea on Gurney Drive, and the organisers are framing it as much around who gets to play as around the standard of play.
What is happening
The tournament has drawn more than 1,200 registered players across all competitive categories, a turnout the organisers say has already gone past what they expected. Player registration closes on 15 July, and the public is being encouraged to sort out spectator access before play begins.
Pickleball, a paddle sport that borrows from tennis, badminton and table tennis, is known for how quickly a complete beginner can get a rally going. That accessibility is exactly what the Penang Open is leaning into.
The event is the latest Malaysian stop for the Association of Pickleball Players (APP), following the Leapmotor APP KL Open earlier this year, which was the first APP event held in the country. Leapmotor returns as title sponsor.
